Jake tightens his grip, practically binding the kid in furry limbs. It was the kind of thing that would have Finn wriggling and laughing in another context, or maybe another time...? Humans were strange like that. Their growth was so incremental, like they were growing up in slow motion. So slow that Jake sometimes didn't realize anything had changed at all, until the proof was right in front of him.
